How Could I Forget?
I forgot to mention in my blog post yesterday that Aiden pottied in the toilet last night! Not just a little tinkle like he has done in the past, but a full blown potty session! Lots of cheers and praise from me, but all he cared about was flushing the toilet! Hopefully we will get this potty thing figured out one of these days!

So Glad You're Home Little Man!
Aiden spent the past two nights at his Papa and Mema Jill's house. He has spent the night there several times, but this time was harder for me. I guess because it was over the weekend and normally he is gone during the week so I am busy at work. So, Shannon and I had some much needed "date" time on Saturday night, but still felt lost throughout the weekend. It was very weird to go to church and then to the pool on Sunday without him! But Aiden had a wonderful time as he always does with all of his grandparents. He got to swim, ride on Papa's tractor (lawn mower) which he actually called it a lawn mower for the first time, play with his cousin Natalie, ride in his dune buggy car (backwards/reverse was his favorite). I can't wait to see pictures (Jill said she would send me some once she got them edited).
But the hardest part of all was when they brought him back today. They met me at my work and Aiden was sleeping when they got there. He woke up as I took him out of the car. We went to my office to get my things and he had the most pitiful cry - the one where the bottom lip quivers - and kept saying, "I want to go back to Papa and Mema's house". He pretty much did this the whole 45 minute drive home! But once we got home, he loved his mommy again!
Thank you Dan and Jill for taking good care of him, he had a great time!

The Difference Between Boys and Girls, and Other Stuff
Every night before Aiden goes to sleep, we sit in his rocking chair and talk about his day and just stuff that Aiden wants to talk about. Tonight he started talking and the conversations went something like this. "We get donuts for daddy on Father's Day. Daddy had Father's Day. And Papa too. Papa is a man. Daddy is a man too." I asked him what he was, "Aiden is a boy". Then he says, "Mommy is a pretty girl. Poppi is a girl dog. Penny is a girl dog too. We have two girl dogs. " (Penny is Dan and Jill's dog).
Then the conversation moved onto band-aids which he is obsessed with. He has to wear at least one band-aid every day, even when he doesn't have any owies. We usually have to coax him in the bathtub to take them off at the end of the day. I usually tell him they are dirty and we will get clean ones in the morning. So tonight, out of the blue when I thought he was almost asleep, I hear, "I have two band-aids. One's green and one's blue. I have dirty band-aids. I get clean band-aids in the morning."
Then we started talking about all his friends and this, according to Aiden, is what they were doing: Lauren was taking a bath, Sophia was watching a movie, Colin was in the bathtub, and all his other friends from school were in bed and the friends that are girls were all sleeping in their Dora beds!
I really have to try hard sometimes not to laugh when he is telling me these stories, because he is so serious about them.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I Have a Red Nose

Tonight we went out to eat to Govenor Stumpy's, one of our favorite little neighborhood restaurants. As we were finishing up our dinner, Aiden was getting a little antsy at the end and was jumping up and down in the booth. To distract him, I pointed out this mirror that is about the width of a wall paper border and runs the perimeter of the restaurant and was about eye level with Aiden as he was standing up in the booth. He looked up into the mirror and says, "I have a red nose". He was talking about his little birthmark which is on his nostril.
When he was born they thought the red mark was a hemangioma and probably would have gone away by 18 months of age. Well since it never went away, it is now a birthmark and he will probably always have it. I never even notice it anymore, so it took us a minute to figure out what he was talking about. He kept repeating that he has a red nose. We both just told him that yes he does and that it is okay.
Until tonight, it never occurred to me that he would ever notice it or say anything about it. I guess that it has just become a part of him, which like I said I don't even notice or pay attention to anymore. Obviously, he could have much worse things wrong with him, but I hope it never makes him feel weird, or discourage him in any way. Things like this really make me realize how quickly children grow up and how observant to things in the world around them that they really are.

Friends

Okay, so I am feeling a little cheesy because I just got back from seeing Sex and the City with a friend of mine from work and four other ladies from her mom's group that I met for the first time tonight. It was a great movie! I really enjoyed it, and I never really watched the series on a regular basis. I laughed a lot and cried a few times too.
Anyway, as I was getting ready to leave, Aiden was eating dinner at his "little" table, and told me to sit down by daddy and eat. I told him mommy was going to the movie with her friends and would eat with them.
Aiden is really big into "friends" lately. He (and his teachers and classmates I assume too) work really hard on calling each of the kids friends. So every day on our way to school and on our way home, we talk about his friends at school, what they did, all of their names, if their mommy or daddy picked them up, etc.
So as I was saying good-bye to Aiden, he says to me, "No, mommy can't eat with her friends. Mommy eat by daddy.". We talked again about me leaving, etc. then Aiden says, "I go with mommy. I see mommies friends". Well when he realized he couldn't go with me, he got very upset and made it very hard for me to leave. Even though I know that not more than 3 minutes after I walked out the front door, he was fine and I was forgotten.
