Our Very Own Super Hero

I know it's been a long time since I have posted. Aiden always just keeps us so busy. Here is the latest phase I guess you could say happening at our house.

Lately, Aiden LOVES to play Super Hero. I am not sure where he got this from, but it is so funny. It may be from a few weeks ago, my mom (Mema Ellie) was visiting and we were doing my twice yearly hair coloring (yes I use hide my gray by using a box coloring kit!). While waiting for the dye I had a towel around my shoulders. Aiden suggested he wanted to be a super hero and that we play super heroes. So, we got a towel and clothes pin and made him a cape. He and I ran back and forth between his bedroom and ours while we were "saving" the world. When I asked him what his super hero name was, he quickly replied with, "Super Gacko". Hmmm...not sure where that name came from either.

Last Saturday, Papa and Mema Jill were here and Aiden again wanted to play super hero. Here are a few pics of him in his super hero costume (complete with boots) and of Super Gacko "saving the world".

Our Star Spangled Weekend

Ever since I was a kid, the 4th of July has been my favorite holiday. My whole family used to go to my Aunt Annie's house in Storm Lake, IA for their annual Star Spangled Spectacular. There was always a parade, crafts, eating and swimming in the lake. I have hopes that Aiden will love the 4th of July and fireworks as much as I do. But after the fireworks show we saw Friday night, it may be a few years before he is a fan of the fireworks. Here is a recap of the great weekend we had.

Friday Shannon, Aiden, and I went to Prairie Village, KS (small suburb just across the state line) for their VillageFest. It reminds me a lot of the Star Spangled spectacular I attended as a kid, and it really can't get any more American than the VillageFest. There is of course the police cars & firetrucks on display for kids to look at and sit in, kids musicians, snow cones, cotton candy, children's parade, crafts, petting zoo (they even had a kangaroo!),

pony rides, free lemonade, etc. I really wanted to see Mr. Stinky Feet (doesn't that name just make you want to laugh!), but the local sports teams mascots were all there - Sluggrr, KC Wolf, and Sizzle and Aiden was terrified upon seeing Sizzle for the first time. He turned around so quickly and kept saying, "I have to go now", that Shannon and I almost had to run to catch him. He was really that scared. So after that fiasco, we had a snow cone while we waited for the Marching Cobras. They are an amazing group of kids who are a performing drill team. They dance, drum, etc. I love them! Aiden, not so much. He pretty much dug his head into mine and Shannon's necks until it was over. Then came time for lunch. For those of you who know how much of a health food nazi I am with Aiden will be proud to know he ate the following for lunch: Cheeto's, a hot dog, a juice box that was not diluted down w/ water in his sippy cup, and a brownie that was bigger than his hand! Needless to say, he was very happy!

Then we went home, took naps, and left to go to Leawood City Park for the much anticipated fireworks display. Because the event was to be so big, we had to park our cars in an office parking lot and they had school buses to shuttle us to the park. Aiden loves school buses and always points them out wherever we go, so he really enjoyed riding the bus. We got there early and listened to a Beatles cover band, ate kettle corn and cherry limeades (again, Aiden was enjoying every bite!), and played on the play ground. Then the fireworks stared and this is how Aiden sat during the whole performance, with his hood over his head! He never acted or said he was scared, he just didn't want to watch them. After about 20 minutes, we figured we had tortured him enough and went home.

Saturday we went to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. It is this amazing farm in the city. Aiden loves it, especially the big cow "Pippi".
So, we fed the ducks, fish, and goats, looked at the pigs and cows, and had a really nice time. We also went on a walking trail, "in the spooky forest" as Aiden was calling it. He was our leader and every time we came to a fork in the road he would say, "which path do we take? How about this path!". Saturday night we ate at our local favorite place, Govenor Stumpy's.

Today we went swimming in Prairie Village. Look at our bathing beauty! Shannon was laying out for a while, so Aiden had to do the same thing! It was just so darn cute.

Happy 4th of July

I know I am a day early, but wanted to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July. I hope you get to spend some time with your family and friends.

Last Sunday, Jill and I tried our hand at taking some pictures of Aiden. We went out to Unity Village in Lee's Summit. It is a beautiful setting with lots of flowers, fountains, and beautiful architecture. Well, my child is such a busy body, that 90% of the pictures are either of his back or him looking around, down, or just anywhere except the camera! Here a few of my favorites.
